Titles With Effects: Good or Bad?

I’ll give one big example: Guild Wars Factions™ introduced the idea of titles, and we felt they brought a lot to the game. With Nightfall, we wanted to expand on that idea. Earning ranks in some titles will now give you in-game bonuses. One example of this new type of title is the Lightbringer. When displayed, this title gives you damage reduction and extra damage against demons. There will even be some PvE-only skills you can learn that become more powerful with each rank of the Lightbringer title.
We’ll also be updating some existing titles this way. For instance, after Nightfall releases, you’ll actually have a chance of successfully removing a magic component, like a Fiery Sword Hilt, without destroying the item it’s attached to. The Wisdom title (earned by identifying items) will improve your ability to do this.
There are a lot of other touches like this that you’ll see in Nightfall. Some of them are new features. Some of them are refinements of existing features. Some are just examples of us doing a better job using the features we have. We’re always discussing our own experiences and all the feedback we see in the forums, and looking for ways to make Guild Wars more rewarding, more dynamic, and more polished. Overall, I feel really good about how Nightfall is turning out. I think the whole team feels that way.

I'm not sure if this is good or not.
"LFM Elite Mission (must have Max Lightbringer!)"
"Max Rank Wisdom will salvage your mods for 1k!"
Won't this increase elitism?
However, making titles worthwhile may add a significant amount of replayability to the game. I know I'm tempted to go for a few more titles on my Nec...
(Also, what effect does Incorrible-Ale Hound give? )

Good or Bad?? VERY GOOD! I thought the best part of Factions was titles but have always said they are way under used. There needs to be more titles, WAY more titles. To know that they are not only adding more titles but also giving them a purpose other then pride is great! Titles are the kind of thing that will keep me playing long after I have finished the plot line.
Where did you find this quote? Can you get me a link to the thread, I would love to read more about this.
*goes off to finish Wisdom title and get 2nd Treasure Hunter title fast*

I don't like this AT ALL. Long-term grinding for gameplay advantages is supposed to be the antithesis of what Guild Wars is about.
Give lightbringer people a little glowy aura or something, NOT a buff to skills.

In real life titles get you perks, should be that way in GW also. Especially since you can only display one at once (which is really crappy) hence there is little point getting any title that is worse than your highest-tiered one.
I'm curious about how the "When displayed, this title gives you damage reduction and extra damage against demons" works seeing as you can't display titles in places where you are able to take or give damage (which is also a really crappy thing about titles).

That may be changed. Its also possible it only requires the "Display" checkbox to be check for the advantage.

"People Know Me" - When you have this title your name will come in the chat every 10 minutes saying; "YourName have reached the greatest accomplishment ever in the Guild Wars history. SPAM HIM OR HER LIKE HELL!!!"
I like this, as long as it wont affect PvP AT ALL.

mmm I don't like it, for the reasons cited by speedy KQ.
Unless the ones that affect in-game performance are reasonably easy to achieve, which makes it sound kind of like the "perks" idea being introduced in LoTR-Online, which -could- be a good thing, since it increases customization without requiring too much grind.

Best news ever. This far exceeded my expectation of emote for title tenfolds. Finally all the time I spent acquiring the titles can actually have some sort of reward other than "hey, I got this title, GJ" self congratulation .
This probably won't work in PvP of course, or all hell will break loose.

True, having these effects work in PvP would be a bad idea.

Agreed. It does seems that this is what he was indicating though. A damage reduction against demons won't help you in PvP.
On one hand I like it. Useful titles make PvE much more interesting and replayable. On the other, it seems to reward people who only play one character over people who have 5-6 characters like me. My title earning efforts are dispersed over many characters. Unless this is what ANet wants (which is likely as they save hard disk space), I think they need to make some PvE titles acount wide rather than just for one character (wisdom seeker and treasure hunter would work, for instance, but not cartographer or protector titles).
EDIT: I just had a "duh" moment. Making more PvE titles account based would also be in ANet's interest since they make $10 on each extra character slot they sell. Make it happen ANet. It's a win-win

Exactly. Having an advantage over others that requires countless grinding to achieve per character goes against everything Guild Wars has stood for.
This is a terrible change.

Strongly disagree, most of the good PVP players already have good titles so they would be happy about getting benefits for that.
Plus without that there would still be no reason for example for a Rank 9 guy to go get a Gladiator title since it would look way worse than the (9) of his Rank title.
Plus it's fundamentally unfair to give perks to PVE titles and not PVP titles, that's discrimination or something.

I think it's a great idea. Finally a reason for me to obtain titles! I'm all for it, so long as it doesn't affect PvP...Aspenwood and the like, as well.
If it does only affect PvE, seriously, how many of you are going to care if someone can inflict 5 more points of damage to a creature per hit than you can?

Its a good idea... but also completely stupid at the same time. I can't wait to see Warriors to FoW needing rank6 Shadowslaying and Rangers needing rank6 Plantslaying.
This is just gonna get completely retarded. Grinding now gives more bonus' than ever before.

as in the strong get stronger, giving the weaker people even a smaller chance to win?
I'm still not sure if I like these effect, seems like a grind fest, depends on how to obtain them/what the bonuses do. (-1 damage vs demons doesn't really change much, -8 does)
